Mr Jenkins has acquired 52 per cent of the club from the Newport AFC Supporters Trust after a new ownership model was approved in September 2023 and sanctioned by the EFL.
Paul Evans, Corporate Partner, led the team at Berry Smith which acted on the transaction.
The takeover means that Mr Jenkins will not only acquire a majority stake but also take charge of the day-to-day running of the club. The Supporters Trust retains a 27% per cent share in and will continue to play an integral role in the club.
Following the announcement of the takeover, Mr Jenkins, the former chairman of Swansea City stated, “I looked around for some opportunities to get back into football and didn’t really find much that I would jump at. But there were two things with Newport County, firstly the unique story how the club came through all those struggles to end up where it is today. Then having the opportunity to join forces with the Supporters’ Trust to stabilise the club and hopefully provide some hope and a better future.
“I would like to thank Paul and the Berry Smith team for their assistance throughout the negotiations and helping to achieve a successful completion of the transaction.”
Paul commented: “We were delighted to advise Huw on the majority takeover of Newport AFC. This comes at a particularly exciting time for the club just days before they face Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round. The club now has a great ownership model in place and will no doubt flourish under Huw’s guidance. We wish Huw and the club the very best for the future.”
