Probate
A Grant of Probate is an official document that confirms the authority of the executors named in a Will to undertake the administration of a deceased’s estate.
In the absence of a Will Letters of Administration have to be obtained to verify that the person appointed in the grant of Letters of Administration has authority to act.
In both cases this will enable the person appointed to deal with the assets of the deceased, including writing to financial institutions and obtaining the release of funds, selling or transferring assets such as stocks and shares and property and distributing the estate in accordance with the Will or rules of intestacy.
